Rubrik swallows Datos IO

Rubrik, a fast growing leader in new generation data protection, just unveiled the news to acquire Datos IO, an emerging player in data protection for distributed applications. We don't know the transaction number but it should be interesting for Datos IO founders.

Datos IO develops an interesting approach covering NoSQL databases such Couchbase, MongoDB, Cassandra or Amazon DynamoDB but also HDFS for Cloudera and Hortonworks Hadoop distribution.

Tarun Thakur, CEO and founder of Datos IO, will join Rubrik and will lead the new business unit named Rubrik Datos IO reporting of course to Bipul Sinha, CEO of Rubrik.

The second player Imanis Data, named in the past past Talena, should land somewhere. As Rubrik eats Datos IO, I'm pretty sure Cohesity, a direct competitor of Rubrik, will react acquiring Imanis Data. Cohesity has to do something and acquire the other player pretty fast, let's say in the next 6-9 months, as both of them, Rubrik and Cohesity, don't have the data protection expertise in distributed environment and they both understand they must have a solution. We'll see for Cohesity but it's a superb move for Rubrik, great new asset for the company.
