StorCentric, the umbrella company offering
Drobo,
Nexsan,
Vexata and
Retrospect, is adding a new network capability to
Assureon, its leading archiving platform.
With 8.3 release, StorCentric adds a
blockchain feature and
fast network interconnect. Leveraging the immutability of the platform known 2 decades now, Assureon is able now to store blockchain transactions.
The second addition is the
40GbE RoCE support between Assuroen elements. Adding a fast network interconnect with very low latency is a bit paradoxical for a secondary storage entity and especially a long term retention appliance. We would have preferred the addition of a S3 compatible interface on top of a WORM capability. Currently Assureon Edge presents a NAS interface with NFS and SMB. It's pretty bizarre StorCentric thinks users need fast access for an archive solution and not a flexible open, remote and worldwide access method. I would do the opposite even if here it touches the internal network between Assureon server and Edge servers.
The literature of Assureon completely forgot to mention that the product came from the acquisition of Evertrust in 2005 by Nexsan. Evertrust was founded in 2000 so the product and associated technologies have 2 decades of proven run and deployment.
